How To - WiFi

SSE Riga provides wireless network access to all of its students, faculty and visitors. It is available in the whole building and in the immediate areas surrounding it (the courtyard and RGSL lobby) as well as in W32 auditorium. There are 2 networks called "sseriga" and "sseriga_public" with identical coverage.
  • sseriga is a secure high-speed network accessible only to students, faculty and administration. To use it you have to have a user account within the SSE Riga organization. This network should be used for network-intensive academic tasks only.
  • sseriga_public is a password-protected public access network for everyone to use. This network has a limited speed and should be used by school guests or on devices where network speed is not as important (mobile phones etc.).
!!! Before connecting to any network please make sure Skype/Outlook/uTorrent/other internet related software is closed (not minimized into the Notification area or Taskbar). It may prevent you from connecting properly. Torrents and other music/video content downloads are prohibited in SSE Riga premises/networks !!!

    To connect to "sseriga" wireless network:

  1. Select "sseriga" from the list of wireless connections and click "Connect".
    Check "Connect automatically" if you want to use this network automatically the next time you visit SSE Riga.
  2. If a pop-up message "Additional log on information may be required, Click to open your browser" appears, click it and your default internet browser will open. If the message does not appear open your favorite browser and open any webpage in a new tab.
  3. You will be automatically redirected to the SSE Riga wireless network log on page. Here you must enter your SSE Riga profile credentials: Username: "nsurname"; password "yourpassword".
  4. Congratulations! You are now connected to "sseriga" wireless network.

    To connect to "sseriga_public" wireless network:

  1. Select "sseriga_public" from the list of wireless connections and click "Connect".
    Check "Connect automatically" if you want to use this network automatically the next time you visit SSE Riga.
  2. You will be prompted to enter the network password. The password is "sserwifi".
  3. Congratulations! You are now connected to "sseriga_public" wireless network.

    If you are having trouble connecting to SSE Riga wireless network:

  • Make sure that wireless capability is turned on. Most laptops have a button or a key combination that turns the wireless network on/off.
    To check if wireless adapter is turned on go to Start -> Control Panel -> (Network and Internet) -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change Adapter Settings. If there is a red X at the bottom left corner of Wireless Network Connection your wireless network adapter is turned off and needs to be turned on.
  • Before connecting to the wireless network exit any applications that constantly use network resources (Skype, uTorrent etc.).
  • Keeping a lot of large files in folders on your desktop or My Documents folder can increase the log-on time for Windows and in extreme cases can cause slow-downs and other problems when connecting to a wireless network. 
    Preferably you should only keep your most crucial documents on the desktop or under My Documents. Any other files should be kept in a custom folder (for example, C:\Movies or C:\Documents) and only a shortcut to this folder should be kept on the desktop. This may resolve problems with connecting to a wireless network and will speed up your log on times when turning on your computer.
